2018/30/08 - The Culinary Zinema Section that organizes the San Sebastian International Film Festival (September 21-29) in collaboration with the Basque Culinary Center, will include in this year's program the documentary Jaén, Virgen & Extra, produced by Antonio Saura and directed by José Luis López-Linares, which chronicles the revolution experienced by the Picual, Jaén’s most emblematic olive, and one which has been somewhat under-appreciated in the past.
2018/29/08 - A scientific study of the Jaime I University of Castellón (Spain) has shown that adolescents who follow the Mediterranean Diet obtain a better academic performance. This positive effect is facilitated through improvements in their sleep quality, researchers found.

The best extra virgin olive oil in the world in 2018, according to the jury of the International Awards for the Quality of Extra Virgin Olive Oil EVOOLEUM Awards, is again Italian. The organization of the contest promoted by Mercacei and AEMO has presented the expected EVOOLEUM TOP100 in the framework of the VII edition of the World Olive Oil Exhibition (WOOE), which was held yesterday and today in Pavilion 2 of IFEMA in Madrid.
2018/14/06 - Once the EVOOLEUM International Awards to the World's TOP100 Extra Virgin Olive Oils were celebrated in March, yesterday Madrid hosted the last edition of the EVOOLEUM Awards for Best Packaging, that recognized the best containers in the categories Best EVOO Premium Design (Herdade do Esporão Biológico), Best Innovative Design (O-MED Limited Edition) and Best Design in Retail (Herdade do Sobrado). It should be noted that EVOOLEUM was the first Contest for the Quality of the Extra Virgins that launched Packaging Awards in which all the juices presented to this contest have participated.
2018/25/07 - Spanish researchers propose a new methodology to evaluate and control the quality of agri-food products and biofuels, through an innovative portable spectrometer -robust, compact and economically affordable- based on infrared technology. The proposal aims complementing or even replacing the expensive current laboratory techniques used for quality analysis.
2018/24/07 - Last year the most important value increase in spanish foreign trade was oils and fats (25%). This group of products stood out for the increase in both exports (16.3%) and imports (27.2%). And the cause of this evolution resided in olive oil, as the export driving force. All this data is included in the 2017 Annual Report on Agri-Food Foreign Trade recently published by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain.
2018/23/07 - Researchers from the Institute of Research and Training in Agriculture and Fisheries (Ifapa) of Mengíbar (Jaén) have worked on a pioneering project based on the description of volatile compounds responsible for the aroma of extra virgin olive oil that persist during the digestion process up to the intestine, where they could exert their healthy effect by protecting our body from bacterial infections.
