05/05/2014 - A group of researchers from different disciplines coordinated by the scientist Julian Taylor at the Spanish National Hospital of Paraplegics (HNP), has discovered the therapeutic value of high oleic acid, a modified main component of olive oil. Specifically, these researchers have proven the value of oleic acid to treat pain associated with peripheral nerve and anxiety.

04/30/2014 - The National Association of Edible Oil Manufacturers, Packers and Refiners (Anierac) has released its data for March, which shows that the outputs of Spanish packaged oils that month stood at 56.7 million liters, of which 30.5 million were of olive, 930,000 liters of olive pomace oil, and the other 25.3 million came from refining oilseeds.

04/29/2014 - The Spanish Federation of Food Industries and Beverages (FIAB), Agri-food Cooperatives and professional agricultural organizations such as Asaja, COAG and UPA appreciated the appointment of Isabel García Tejerina as new Minister of Agriculture, Food and Environment and trust that she will develop a good job.

04/28/2014 - The current Spanish General Secretary of Agriculture and Food, Isabel García Tejerina, will be the new Minister of Agriculture, Food and Environment, replacing Miguel Arias Cañete, who stands up for the European elections as the representative of Partido Popular (PP).

04/25/2014 - The development of the agrifood sector requires the design of a global strategy for transferring scientific collaboration and the active exchange of knowledge. But it is also important to be capable of meeting the demands of farmers and industrials and develop active exchange of knowledge processes between different actors along the agrifood innovation systems. These challenges led the last sessions of the the 4th Edition of Innovagro's Seminar, organized by Red Innovagro and the International Excellence ceiA3 Agrifood Campus that took place from 23 to 24 April in Córdoba (Andalusia).

04/24/2014 - The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development of the Andalusian Government, Elena Víboras, says olive oil production "has broken records this campaign, confirming and improving our forecasts", since, according to the Information and Food Control Agency (AICA), Andalusia has had an output of 1.4 million tonnes this season.

04/23/2014 - Universities of Jaén (Andalusia) and Al Jouf (Saudi Arabia) signed on 16th April an agreement for the development of joint activities in the field of olive groves and olive oil. It is expected an exchange of researchers between the two institutions to define and start executing joint projects.

04/22/2014 - Galicia, Canarias, Cantabria and Asturias are the Spanish Autonomous Communities that consume more olive oil, while Andalusia, Madrid, Cantabria and the Basque Country highlighted in the consumption of virgin olive oil, as detailed the last study about Oil Consumption of Spanish Households elaborated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (Magrama), in which an increase of 3.3% can be apreciated in the consumption of this product in 2013, with a total volume of 615,634,420 liters.

04/21/2014 - Olive oil is a subgroup of the Spanish agri-food economy that has experienced a good export performance in both volume and value during the last years. Thus, this export trend has continued since 1995 and export sales volume has shifted from 158,308 tonnes registered in that year to 928,115 tonnes in 2012, as indicated in the 2013 Annual Foreign Trade Report published by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (Magrama).
