EVOOLEUM, the Worldwide EVOO Festival

2020/09/03 - Córdoba hosted on March 6 and 7 the best EVOO tasters in the world to evaluate the samples presented in the fifth edition of the International EVOOLEUM Awards Contest organized by AEMO and Mercacei Publishing Group. The most influential media in Andalusia, as well as numerous authorities and representatives of the sector -such as the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, the Interprofessional or the FPCO- did not want to miss an event that has become a mandatory appointment and meeting point of the culture of the extra virgin worldwide.

At 9:30 a.m. on March 6, at the Visitor Reception Center in Córdoba, an elegant and modern space with a magical location between the mosque-cathedral and the Roman bridge, began the tasting days of the EVOOLEUM Awards. The 24 best tasters in the world -from Spain, Greece, Portugal, Germany, the United States, France, Argentina and Japan- were prepared to taste the more than 700 samples presented in the fifth edition of this international competition.



Ricardo Domínguez García-Baquero, Director-Manager of the Fundación Patrimonio Comunal Olivarero, was there; as well as Isabel Bombal Díaz, Director of Rural Development, Innovation and Agrifood Training of the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture; and Teresa Pérez Millán, Manager of the Interprofessional Organization of Spanish Olive Oil, who were showed their interest in knowing the protocol and the selection process of the 100 best EVOOs in the world and showed their support for a contest that in just five years has become the most rigorous private international competition in the world, according to the prestigious ranking "The World's Best Olive Oils".

In this sense, José Miguel Herrero Velasco, General Director of the Food Industry of the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, also attended the tasting sessions to watch the careful selection process carried out by the organization and personally meet the national and international tasters there gathered together.

During the first day, EVOOLEUM was also visited by the institutions of the province. Isabel Albás Vives, first Deputy Mayor of the City of Córdoba, attended the inauguration of the tasting, accompanied by Felisa Cañete Marzo, second VP of the Diputación de Córdoba; Araceli Cabello Cabrera, Delegate of Agriculture of the Junta de Andalucía in Córdoba; and Enrique Quesada Moraga, Vice Chancellor for Territorial Research and Development at the University of Córdoba, who were very impressed with the quality of the juices presented and joined in a common plea: "that there are many Spanish EVOOs in the TOP100".



Others who didn't want to miss the appointment were Ricardo Fernández Escobar, Director of the MBA in Oliviculture and Elaotechnology at the University of Córdoba; Rosa Gallardo Cobos, Director of the Higher Technical School of Agronomic and Forestry Engineering of the University of Córdoba; and Francisco Cáceres Clavero, director of the Ifapa Alameda del Obispo Center, very committed to the search for quality in the EVOO sector, who highlighted the work of the organization and the EVOOLEUM tasters, in addition to describing this meeting as an "essential annual event".

Finally, the most important media in Andalusia approached to cover the event. Thus, televisions such as Canal Sur broadcast images of the tasting and offered in their news the "advice for consumers" provided by some of the jurors, while other media such as the COPE radio station or the ABC newspaper published the news in their digital covers.

On the other hand, committed to the new forms of communication and the promotion of EVOO culture, the EVOOLEUM organization remained extremely active in Social Media during the tasting days, achieving thousands of interactions in the videos published live from their profiles on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Due to the sudden postponement of the WOOE -where the results of this contest were traditionally announced-, known during the tasting days, the new place and date chosen to communicate the results of this fifth edition will be revealed in the next few days.
