European production of olive oil stands at 2.25 million tons until April

2019/28/05 - European production of olive oil has stood at 2,250,102 tons until April, according to the latest data from the European Commission (EC). In the case of Spain, production reaches 1,780,907 tons, while in Italy it stands at 17,353 t.
In particular, according to these figures published by the Community Executive, the production of olive oil in Spain was 7,200 tons in October; 98,200 tons in November; 628,700 tons in December; 686,100 tons in January; 276,100 tons in February; 74,327 tons in March; and 10,280 tons in April.

The Commission expects that olive oil production in Spain will reach 1,790,000 tons in the 2018/19 season (+ 42%); while consumption will be 540,000 tons (+13.6%) and final stocks of 570,600 tons (+52.2%).

By country, the data of the Community Executive rates Italy's production at 173,505 tons so far this season; at 185,000 in the case of Greece; and in 101,080 tons in Portugal.

Regarding Italy, Brussels expects a production of 175,000 t. (-59.1%), consumption of 480,000 tons (-15.2%) and final stocks of 3,000 tons (-87.7%); while in Greece the production is estimated at 185,000 t. (-46.5%), consumption in 125,000 tons (-3.8%) and final stocks of 41,700 tons (-37.7%). For Portugal, the estimated production is 101,080 t. (-25%) and the consumption is 75,000 tons (similar figure to the previous season).

At a general level, the Commission foresees a Community production of 2,267,080 t. (+ 3.7%), a consumption of 1,336,400 tons (-15.6%) and a final stock of 632,500 tons (+ 28.8%).
