Oro Bailén reaches the top in the fourth edition of the EVOOLEUM Awards

2019/27/03 - After several years almost touching the sky, Oro Bailén Picual has achieved it: best EVOO in the world (EVOOLEUM 2019 ABSOLUTE BEST) in the fourth edition of the International Competition for the Quality of Extra Virgin Olive Oil EVOOLEUM Awards, promoted by Mercacei Publishing Group and AEMO. Once again, Spain exhibits its power by placing eight extra virgins in the EVOOLEUM TOP10, with the Picual variety as the main protagonist.

Installed among the five best EVOOs in the world since the first edition of the contest, the EVOOLEUM Awards 2019 -held on March 8 and 9 in Cordoba- have crowned Oro Bailén Picual (Aceites Oro Bailén Galgón 99, S.L.U.) as the best extra virgin olive oil from the world regarding the opinion of the prestigious jury of the International Awards for the Quality of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, composed of 22 of the best tasters in the world coming from Spain, Italy, Greece, Germany, Portugal, Israel, Argentina or Japan.

The results of the contest, the expected EVOOLEUM TOP100, have been unveiled this morning in the frame of the 2019 edition of the World Olive Oil Exhibition (WOOE), the World Meeting of Olive Oil that every year brings together in Ifema Madrid the main professionals of the international trade of olive oils. In this event, Juan A. and Pandora Peñamil, CEO of Mercacei Publishing Group and Director of the EVOOLEUM World's TOP100 Extra Virgin Olive Oils Guide, respectively; and José María Penco, director of AEMO and of the EVOOLEUM Awards competition, revealed in the midst of an atmosphere of great expectation the list of winners of the fourth edition of a contest that has already become a benchmark in the international scene due to its absolute rigor and reliability, as well as the high level of the EVOOs presented.

More than 600 samples have competed in the fourth edition of the EVOOLEUM Awards -15% more than in the previous edition-, which has counted with the participation of juices from Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, France, Croatia, Slovenia, Turkey, Israel, Morocco, Chile, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Tunisia, United States, Malta, Germany or Japan -one of the novelties of this year-.

With the same score as the winner (95), Valdenvero Hojiblanca, from Sociedad Cooperativa Olivarera de Valdepeñas (Colival), has risen to the second place on the podium, followed by El Santuario de Mágina (94 puntos), from S.C.A. San Isidro Labrador. The rest of the TOP10, of clear Spanish domain, is completed by Almaoliva Bio (Almazaras de la Subbética, S.C.A.), Origini (Oliocru, S.R.L.), Don Gioacchino (Azienda Agricola Sabino Leone), Fuente Ribera (Manuel Molina Muñoz e Hijos, S.L.), Maquiz Picual (Aceites de Maquiz, S.L.), Puerta de las Villas (S.C.A. San Vicente de Mogón) and Cladivm (Aceite Aroden Hispania, S.L.). In total, eight Spanish EVOOs and two Italians; a hegemony that is reflected in the TOP100 of EVOOLEUM Awards, with no less than 81 Spanish representatives, 12 Italians, 4 Portuguese, 2 Croatians and 1 Slovenian. Pure European empowerment.

Winners by Categories

In the other categories, Oro Bailén Picual, with six awards, figures as the great winner being also proclaimed Best Monovarietal, Best Green Fruity, Best from Spain and Best Picual -45 of the 100 best extra virgins in the world are single-varietals of Picual or coupages made of this variety-. Almaoliva Bio, on the other hand, raises with three trophies when adding to the fourth place of the EVOOLEUM TOP10 those corresponding to Best Coupage and TOP3 of Organic Farming Production -classification that is completed by LivesOlives Bio, from Sánchez Fernández de Rute, S.L.; and Ortice Riserva, from Tenuta Romano, S.R.L.-; as it happens with two excellent Italian juices, the monovarietal of Casaliva Origini, that to its fifth position in the EVOOLEUM TOP10 we must add its awards as Best Blend of Green-Mature Fruity and Best from Italy; and Don Gioacchino (sixth place in the EVOOLEUM TOP10, Best PDO from Italy and Best Coratina).

With two trophies appear Valdenvero Hojiblanca (second in the EVOOLEUM TOP10 and Best Hojiblanca); El Santuario de Mágina (third in the EVOOLEUM TOP10 and Best PDO Spain); Sierra Oliva, from Aceites Vadolivo, S.L. (Best Mature Fruity and Best Arbequina); and one of the novelties of this edition, Olea Capris, by Olea Capris Z.O.O. (Best PDO Slovenia and Best of Slovenia).

Finally, with one award -apart from the EVOOLEUM TOP10- we come across Brist Premium Sta. Margherita, by Brist D.O.O. (Best from Croatia); Cabeço das Nogueiras Premium, from SAOV-Sociedade Agrícola Ouro Vegetal, S.A. (Best from Portugal); Oleum Hispania, from Molino Virgen de Fátima, S.L. (Best Pajarera); Az-Azeytun, from Comercial Az-Azeytun XCIII, S.L. (Best Empeltre); Villa Magra Grand Cru, by Frantoio Franci, S.R.L. (Best Frantoio); Artajo 10 Koroneiki, from Aceite Artajo-S. Agroebro, S.L. (Best Koroneiki); Mueloliva Picuda, from Muela-Olives, S.L. (Best Picuda); Guidaroli Sierra de Cazorla, from Aceites Vadolivo, S.L. (Best Royal); and Vieiru Ecológico DOP Gata-Hurdes, from Almazara As Pontis-Agropecuaria Carrasco, S.L. (Best Manzanilla Cacereña).

As usual, the 100 best EVOOs in the world according to the EVOOLEUM Awards will appear in the next edition of the EVOOLEUM World's TOP100 Extra Virgin Olive Oils Guide -published every year in English and Spanish, and also available in an app for iOS and Android- through a complete information sheet that includes its origin, characteristics, varieties of olives, type of olive grove, oleotourism activities, Kosher and Halal certificates, etc.-, accompanied by an image of its packaging, score, tasting and pairing.
