Unlocking the potential of Tunisian olive oil through a value chain development Project

2019/04/03 - The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have a project underway whose main objective is to support the development of the value chain to improve competitiveness and increase recognition of Tunisian olive oil.
Competitiveness and recognition are the two pillars on which Tunisia's strategy in the olive oil sector will revolve. Thus, all project activities will be developed around these two pillars and will help the Tunisian olive industry to provide competitive and differentiated products for its target markets, as explained to Mercacei, Lisa Paglietti, an FAO economist.

The project will focus on improving quality through improved production and post-harvest practices and ensuring that producers can access and develop markets with higher added value. Specifically, according to Paglietti, the project aims to ensure that producers of small and medium enterprises can improve oil quality standards, certification and links along the value chain.

In this regard, special attention will be given to helping these companies meet market demands, improve access to finance and investment, adopting the most innovative tools and methods, such as traceability, organic products and best practices. for the evaluation panels.
