The latest research on Quality and Diseases of the Olive Tree will focus the Annual Day of Olive Oil in California

2019/25/01 - The OOCCs second annual Olive Oil Day has been scheduled for March 5 at the Robert J. Cabral Ag Center in Stockton (California). This event is free and open to the public and the OOCC encourages all EVOO lovers with an interest in the California olive oil industry to attend.

California Olive Oil Day will begin at 9:00 am with presentations on OOCC funded research. First up is Dr. Selina Wang from the UC Davis Olive Center summarizing their reports on oil quality and purity in official testing and on the retail shelf. The latest findings from research on Peacock Spot/Neofabraea will be presented by Dr. Flourent Trouillas from University of California Cooperative Extension. Dr. Jim Adaskaveg of UC Riverside, will provide an update on his continuing work regarding Olive Knot. Additionally, presentations will be provided from a series of literature reviews being funded by the OOCC. Topics presented will include an overview of carbyl alternatives for black scale by Houston Wilson from UC Riverside and olive oil orchard canopy management by Richard Rosencrance from CSU Chico.

Lunch will be provided and at 1:00 pm the OOCC will begin a special Olive Oil Quality Workshop. This workshop is designed to better inform the California olive oil community about the California Department of Food and Agriculture standards for Extra Virgin Olive Oil and to educate all sectors of the olive oil supply chain on the best practices to enhance quality and extend shelf life. This workshop also highlights the variety of uses for olive oil testing as a tool, including evaluating the quality and predicting the shelf life of an oil. Following this workshop, there will be a Q&A panel of industry specialists to field questions.

Attendees are encouraged to attend the morning session, the afternoon session or both sessions of Olive Oil Day and to join us for lunch. We are asking attendees to RSVP by February 28 by contacting Tyler Rood at tyler@agamsi.com.
