International experts launch a new partnership to spread high-quality EVOO

2018/02/01 - The International Association of Experts in Olive Oil (Aexpov) is a non-profit organization that is being created in order to be an instrument in favor of the dissemination of quality EVOOs, as well as their knowledge among producers, marketers, industries and consumers.

To meet its objectives, this new entity, which is in its final phase of constitution and whose board of directors is composed of 20 experts, will always be at the disposal of the sector, providing relevant information and serving as a link between producers and consumers in order to improve and value this important product more and more, as the general coordinator of Aexpov, Guajará J. Oliveira, has told Mercacei.

Oliveira stressed that it is necessary to organize and train professionals to act in favor of a more effective development of the sector in order to increase trade in quality oils and improve their knowledge.

The statutes of the entity are now ready and approved after consulting all the professionals involved. In particular, the founding group of the association is composed of 65 professionals from both producing and importing countries and the main requirement to be part of Aexpov is to have a specific and university course on olive oil, the basis being the Expert Course in Virgin Olive Oils of the University of Jaén (UJA). "Without this title you can not be part of the entity. It is the main condition for the professional to be accepted and therefore he must prove that he has completed the course with the corresponding certificates," said Oliveira, while he has advanced that they aspire to reach between 150 and 200 professionals.

Some of the activities planned by the entity are to coach oil mills in the process of producing quality oils, disseminate their knowledge through talks and events or prepare other professionals as chefs to know and use this product, among many others.

The countries that until now have professionals associated with Aexpov in this first phase are Argentina, Germany, Algeria, Brazil, Croatia, Spain, Egypt, Greece, England, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Morocco, Mexico, Tunisia, Turkey, Portugal, Peru, Sweden and Uruguay.

The main headquarters of the association will be in Spain and will have secondary offices in other countries outside of Europe.
