O_Live, the Conference on EVOO and Health that will make Jaén an international scientific reference

2018/07/03 - The III International Congress on Virgin Olive Oil, Olive Oil and Health will take place from May 18 to 20 at the Íbero Museum in Jaén. The new edition of this international symposium will bring together the latest scientific evidence linking virgin olive oils and health and will develop an intense informative activity to spread this knowledge throughout society.
O_Live !, organized by the Diputación de Jaén and the University of Jaén (UJA), will gather an important number of renowned researchers. The scientific program of the congress includes conferences, round tables and debates with the participation of some of the most outstanding researchers in the world in this field, such as Miguel Ángel Martínez-González, of Harvard University, or Jesús de la Osada, Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Zaragoza. But there will also be room for personalities of international prestige such as Chef Joan Roca or former President of Unesco, Federico Mayor Zaragoza. Topics such as nutrition and disease prevention will be addressed, as well as the olive groves as a sustainable ecosystem for the future or new trends in food, among other issues.

Yesterday, the second VP and Deputy of Promotion and Tourism, Manuel Fernández, presented together with the rector of the University of Jaén, Juan Gómez, and the Professor of Immunology at the UJA and Director of this congress, José Juan Gaforio, this event "with the aim to continue strengthening research on virgin olive oil from Jaén and continue to be the reference to promote every research line that is being done in this area", underlined Manuel Fernández.

The third edition of this congress -the first was held in 2004 and the second in 2008- will also serve to elaborate the III Declaration of Jaén on Olive Oil and Health, a consensus document among scientists, both participants in the congress as guests, which will subsequently be published in an international scientific journal, which will help disseminate worldwide the latest scientific evidence linking virgin olive oils to health. The two previous statements of Jaén had a huge global impact, which will continue with this new declaration

O_Live! is designed in a different way to the traditional scientific congresses. The informative formats are placed in a context of an innovative event, to make the transmission of knowledge and the understanding of ideas more effective. This implies that the event will not be limited to a space that is closed only to scientists, but also aims to be open up to society as a whole. It is an event presided over by the maximum scientific rigor, typical of congresses of this nature, but from which derives an important informative aspect, addressed to other sectors of the population, as well as to a general public. In both cases, the central theme is to expose the latest scientific advances, in addition to the sufficiently consolidated knowledge that supports the benefits of virgin olive oils and olive groves for health in all its aspects: human and environmental.
