2018/25/01 - Olio Nuovo Days, the first great gastronomic event of the year discovered the freshest extra virgin olive oil in restaurants, bakeries and other gastronomic centers, has closed its third edition with a great success by the organizers. Between January 16 and 20, Paris hosted international producers, experts and chefs from Spain, Brazil, Italy, Japan and Turkey at this event.

This new appointment "has demonstrated and demystified" a series of concepts sometimes unknown by consumers about the diversity of EVOO and its aromas, bitterness and other sensory aspects, according to its organization.

Olio Nuovo Days aims to promote amogst the French consumers the high-end extra virgin olive oils in its freshest expression, through tasting workshops and other activities to be held in restaurants, bakeries and other places of interest in the French capital. Juices from Spain (Nobleza del Sur, Casas de Hualdo, Henri Mor and O-MED), Japan, Italy, Greece, Tunisia and France participated in this event that also included the presence of the chef from Alicante Mª José San Román (El Monastrell, 1 Michelin star).

In addition, three presentations of experts in EVOO were held in which they addressed, among other topics, "the bitterness, a taste that is (dis)liked; the black fruitiness: a French singularity and the olive tree: from the Mediterranean base to Japan". In this third edition, Japan was the country invited to the event, which offered an exciting tour for EVOO lovers to discover the juices of the new harvest at each tasting point.

This initiative was released in 2016 during a single day, although due to the success of the first edition and the growing demand from the public, the 2017 edition lasted for a week.

International competition
Within the framework of this exhibition, the international competition of EVOOs took place, being the first of its kind composed of a jury of experts in olive oil but also amateurs, which was held at the Métropole Nice Côte d'Azur facilities. The contest recognized the Spanish EVOO Henri Mor as the best packaging, as well as the Japanese Takao Olive, as the best in quality, and the French Les Callis for the best legibility of the label.

"The continued success of this concept in its three years of celebration has attracted the attention of other olive oil ambassadors who are considering of exporting this idea to their cities," said Olio Nuovo Days promoter, Emmanuelle Déchelette.

Déchelette highlighted the "bright prospects" of the event for 2019 and advanced that it will have a promotional campaign for producers, which will take place in December. Last November the CEO and editor of Mercacei, Juan A. Peñamil, and Emmanuelle Dechelette announced the celebration of Olio Nuovo Days in Madrid throughout 2019.
