Gourmet Olive Exhibition, a new event in Greece that will promote Premium EVOO

2016/19/05 - The 1st Gourmet Olive Exhibition will take place in May 20-22 at the newly renovated cultural center, Lab’Attoir, in Thessaloniki, Greece. Its aim is to promote Greek cuisine based on extra virgin olive oil in order to recognize the role of small farmers and promote the benefits of consuming quality EVOO.

The 1st Gourmet Olive Exhibition is the premier event in the industry of artisan olive oil, olive-oil based gourmet foods, and olive oil-based personal care products and is where top retail, foodservice and wholesale buyers source new gourmet products from the best producers in Greece. Retail customers also have the opportunity to taste gourmet, become a connoisseur for a day, meet the producers, enjoy renowned chef shows and more.

At its inaugural year, 17 hosted international buyers from Sweden, Norway, Ireland, UK, Finland, Germany, France, Belgium, Holland, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria Serbia, Hungary, Check Republic, Austria, Switzerland and many more local buyers are invited to attend.

The 1st Gourmet Olive Exhibition was created in order to promote the excellence of the Greek gastronomic heritage, which is based on extra virgin olive oil. Its founders aim 1st Gourmet Olive Exhibition to become one of the most important trading venues in the region, by playing a leading role in facilitating small producers, offering added value to their products and promoting the benefits of consuming high quality olive oil products.

Along with the many gourmet products exhibited there will be a range of exciting parallel events and attractions, such as the Olive Oil Bar, chef shows and seminars.

Renowned connoisseurs will introduce the art of olive oil tasting at the prominently placed Olive Oil Bar. Well known chefs will demonstrate special recipes, including the use of olive oil in pastries and cocktails as well as food preserving and more. High profile speakers will deliver short presentations concerning the many different uses of olive oil, its importance in nutrition, the importance of the Mediterranean diet and more.

The highlight of the exhibition will be the Public Awards where the visitors will be given the opportunity to not only taste but also vote for their favorite products. The winners will be announced at a special ceremony on the last day of the exhibition.

Round Tables
A round table discussion will be held on Friday May 20 at 4:00 pm. The public will have the opportunity to attend a special event dedicated to the production and the many different uses of olive oil. Speakers are professors, dieticians, chefs and analysts who will present their views and answer questions.

The event will also be linked to the internationally acclaimed gastronomy culture of Thessaloniki, the dietary value of the Greek produce and the contemporary food market demands.

During the food exhibition, a series of brief, informative presentations will take place concerning the many different uses of olive oil, its importance in nutrition, the professional tasting method and many more. Emphasis will be placed on local products, the Greek diet as part of the Mediterranean cuisine, the modern trends in healthy diet habits as well as the significance of certified products, such as PDO, PGI, Organic, etc.

Seminars will also be highlighting the importance of olive oil and other edible ingredients in the personal care products.

Olive Oil Bar
At the 1st Gourmet Olive Exhibition, a modern Olive Oil Bar is tastefully set up offering the public the opportunity to taste and discover different varieties of olive oil and olives from all over Greece. Organoleptic characteristics will be assessed and different cultivation methods will be discussed. Professional connoisseurs along with olive oil producers will lead the tastings. During the tasting shows, innovative products will be introduced.

Cooking Shows
To highlight the total olive experience of the 1st Gourmet Olive Exhibition, a series of cooking shows and cooking lessons on the Mediterranean cuisine will feature the products exhibited. Renowned chefs will cook using the products exhibited. During each day of the food exhibition, famous chefs will present on site inspiring recipes from all over Greece. Products exhibited in the fair will be featured in modern and traditional recipes.
