2015/04/28 - The president of the Council of Jaén, Francisco Reyes; and the rector of the University of Jaén (UJA), Juan Gómez, have signed a collaboration agreement that will allow the province of Jaén to participate in the national research programme Predimed Plus Project focused on understanding the benefits of extra virgin olive oil consumption in the prevention of diabetes.
2015/04/27 - Hispack & Bta. closed its third joint edition at the Fira de Barcelona Gran Via exhibition centre this afternoon, confirming a change of trend in the industry and the economy that indicates a recovery. At the closed of this edition, with the final figures yet to come in, both shows are set to reach close to 38,000 trade visitors, 8% more than the expected total. Exhibitors have highlighted the quality of visitors—who, unlike during the economic downturn, have come with definite plans for investment—and the increase in number of foreign visitors, from 112 countries, 10.6% of the total.
2015/04/24 - "So far there are no solid arguments which support that the reduction of ethyl esters ensure a higher quality in oil." This was stated yesterday by the Andalusian Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development, Elena Víboras, in the Quality Olive Oil Bureau in Seville; a meeting during which the olive sector representatives gave their unanimous call for a moratorium on the application of the European regulation that aims at reducing the levels of these compounds.

2015/04/22 - The fifth edition of the International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Ovibeja Award has recognized Spanish, Portuguese and Italian brands in its categories of Ripe Fruity, Light Green Fruity, Medium Green Fruity and Intense Green Fruity.
2015/04/21 - Spanish Extra Virgin Olive Oils have swept the board at the third edition of the International Olive Oil Competition, Olive Japan, which received more than 440 samples from around the world. Specifically, Spanish juices have won 7 of the 12 Premier medals that have been delivered in the contest.

But ironically, producing table olives or olive oil requires huge amounts of water – sometimes a scarcity in hot, dry southern Europe. An EU-funded project has developed a system to re-use the water used to wash olives – good news for both the environment and olive producers limited by low water levels.

2015/04/16 - Olivatessen by Mercacei has won the thirteenth AEMO Award for the Promotion of the Olive Culture. The projects of olive tourism A trip to the world of olive oil, from Oleícola San Francisco, and Promoting EVOO from Salamanca, from Soleae, shared the Second Prize; while the Third Prize recognized the formative work of the Spanish Association of Mill Managers, Aemoda. Finally, Manuel Piedrahita earned a Special Recognition for his career and contributions to the olive sector, the culmination of which was his last book The Olive Spirit, as reported by the Spanish Association of Olive Municipalities (AEMO) in a statement.
2015/04/15 - The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment has recognized Finca La Reja as the Best Extra Virgin Olive Oil of the 2014-2015 campaign in the category of Conventional Production and Organic Production, both awards with which the Ministry intends to promote Spanish EVOOs among consumers.
