Extra Virgin Olive Oil, the star-product of the Spain National Football Team's Menus at the Russia World Cup

"Extra virgin olive oil is the protagonist, the main ingredient of every dish", explains to Mercacei the executive chef of Gourmet de La Roja, Daniel García Peinado, known as the "chef of EVOO", who will be responsible for the menus in Moscow. Moreover, the Head of Medical Services of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Helena Herrero delves into the use of olive oil in the food pattern that will follow the staff of the National Football Team: "its properties are precious for the player's diet".

The gastronomic repertoire of Gourmet de La Roja -created by chef Daniel García Peinado- will be enjoyed by the coaches and authorities that support the National Football Team in Moscow. "We will cook everything with extra virgin olive oil, not only to season but when frying meat and fish, as well as when cooking stews", explains to Mercacei the Spanish chef who describes EVOO as "the best and healthiest fat in the world".

In particular, he says, the extra virgin used to cook the menus comes from Extremadura and is of the Morisca variety. The brand’s name? Molino de Zafra. Daniel García Peinado, trained at the kitchen of Martín Berasategui, combines his work as executive chef at the Hotel Vincci Aleysa with the Gourmet experience of the Spanish National Football Team. "We seek to merge the tradition and craftsmanship of our cuisine with the values of the Spanish team. Strength, style, commitment... Everything that makes us unique and admired in the world on a healthy nutrition basis", he says.

As for the spefific menu of the football players, Helena Herreros, Head of Medical Services of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, tells Mercacei that the use of olive oil "is fundamental in the menus that are cooked for the daily meal of the players". The doctor, who details that at the tables of the players and the technical staff of the National Football Team there are always bottles of EVOO and "its use is usual", also highlights that "the chefs only use olive oil and EVOO to cook the meals for National Team".

According to Herreros, the Spanish team will not travel with any food product due to the laws of the Russian Government. "However, the players and staff of the National Team will only consume Spanish olive oil, which is already exported to Russian territory," she points out.
