The Andalusian EVOO stands out in the UK

2018/11/05 - About thirty buyers and opinion leaders attended the first Olive Oil Tasting organized by Extenda-Andalusian Agency for Foreign Promotion in the United Kingdom. In this commercial event, 11 Andalusian brands participated and showed the quality of a sector in which this Spanish region is a world leader in exports, reaching 2,961 million euros in 2017.

According to the Extenda-Andalusian Agency of Foreign Promotion report, the tasting was held on May 3th in the Oxford Circus Room of the H10 London Waterloo Hotel in London. This action showed the quality of the 11 Andalusian EVOOs present in the UK market, a destination in which the exports of this product reached 134 million euros in 2017, 22% more than in the previous year.

During the meeting, the companies had the opportunity to attend the olive oil tasting led by Mar Fernández, expert in sensory analysis of extra virgin olive oil, as well as the subsequent networking with oil importers in the event. Mar Fernández is a professional recognized by institutions such as IFAPA, the International University of Andalusia (UNIA) and the University of Jaén (UJA).

The initiative was directed mainly to writers, chefs, journalists and bloggers of important gastronomic, nutrition and lifestyle publications. International agents also had the opportunity to attend a presentation about the olive oil sector in Andalusia by the director of the Business Promotion Office of Extenda in the United Kingdom.


Attending enterprises
Of the total Andalusian companies in the olive oil sector that participated in the tasting, three came from Jaén (Castillo de Canena Olive Juice, Aceites Oro Bailén-Galgón 99, Aceites Supremo), two from Almería (Oro del desierto, Oleo Almanzora), two from Málaga (O-Med, La Samiaja), one of Córdoba (Muela-Olives and Minerva), one of Huelva (Disagon) and one of Seville (Basilippo).

The organization of this action by Extenda is co-financed with funds from the European Union through the P.O. ERDF of Andalusia 2014-2020, endowed with a community contribution of 80%.
