Record participation of EVOOs in Alimentaria 2018

2018/13/04 - Ready, Set, Go! Next Monday begins Alimentaria, the Trade Show for Food, Beverages and Food Service (Barcelona, April 16-19), an unmissable event of the International food sector that, thanks to its alliance with Hostelco, will bring together 4,500 companies and 150,000 professionals, 27% of them international. The space dedicated to EVOO will have a record participation, with the exhibition of 122 extra virgins, and will be a true reflection of an increasingly diverse market and with a greater number of products that compete in the Premium segment.

Alimentaria, the international key event for food and beverages will celebrate the largest edition in recent years with Hostelco, a trade show for the hotel and catering equipment industry. From 16 to 19 April, on a surface of 100,000 net m2 of the Gran Via venue, this great exhibition platform will show both to distributers and the Horeca channel the most complete and transversal offer of the entire value chain of the industry of food, restaurant, and gastronomy. Both shows are expected to attract 150,000 visitors and 4,500 exhibiting companies, 27% of which will be from overseas.

Alimentaria brings together the biggest companies in the sector around six different showrooms: Intervin, Intercarn and Restaurama, for the wine, meat and Food Service sectors respectively; Expoconser (food preserves and semi-preserves); Interlact (dairy products and derivatives) and Multiple Foods (oriented to large consumption, new categories of products and regional and international participations, among others). On the other hand, Hostelco will show the latest innovations in equipment and machinery for hotels, tableware, technology, coffee, textiles, interior design, laundry, vending, spa and accessories.

More EVOO ...
Within the numerous areas of the fair is the space dedicated exclusively to olive oil: the Olive Oil Bar. It is an area dedicated to self-guided tasting with the help of descriptive sheets to discover some of the best extra virgin olive oils around the world. A space with flavor and variety, highly appreciated by national and international buyers, representatives of specialized distribution, retail, gastronomy or the Horeca channel, among many other food professionals interested in the EVOO world.

In this next edition, as a novelty, the Olive Oil Bar will be segmented into three exhibition zones according to the different type of oils displayed. One of them will be the space dedicated to conventional production EVOOs, which will display the majority of extra virgins present at the fair, in glass or tin packaging; the second will be the section of organic production EVOOs, which will bring together those juices present at the fair that have the official seal of Organic Agriculture granted by the European Union, whether in glass or tin; and, finally, the section of Specialties, which will include those products that contain olive oil or virgin olive oil or extra virgin olive oil as the main ingredient, incorporating it to others such as aromatic herbs, plants, spices, fruits, etc., or any technique that modifies its organoleptic profile, such as smoked or flavored oils.

A total of 122 references from 80 companies will be present in this Olive Oil Bar. Marta Angulo, Director of the company Food Consulting and Coordinator of this space of 175 square meters of exhibition, points out that "these are brands that, for a few years, have advanced beyond the search for flawless oils, pursuing excellence and developing haute cuisine EVOOs."

... And more gastronomy

The promotion of gastronomic quality will be one of the main common identity signs in Alimentaria and Hostelco. Therefore, more than 150 activities will be carried out aimed at promoting the connections between the food, gastronomic, and tourism industries.

The complementary nature between the two halls will become evident in the spaces dedicated to the gastronomic demonstrations. Thus, The Hostelco Experience and The Alimentaria Experience will bring together 35 of the most awarded chefs of the moment, with over 45 Michelin stars between them. Andoni Luis Aduriz (Mugaritz restaurant, Gipuzkoa), Fina Puigdevall (Les Cols, Girona), Nandu Jubany (Can Jubany, Barcelona), Paco Roncero (La Terraza del Casino, Madrid), and Mario Sandoval (Coque, Madrid) will participate in the two events with different approaches.

Both Hostelco and Alimentaria's Restaurama hall will also facilitate the sharing of experiences and information, visualizing the innovation that drives the sector. As a result, the next edition will expand demonstration spaces in which the real application of the products and services presented by the participating companies can be seen.

Once again Mercacei will participate in Alimentaria with its own booth in Pavilion 2 G-735.
