2018/22/03 - ... Monini Monocultivar Coratina, by Monini, S.p.A. The best extra virgin olive oil in the world in 2018, according to the jury of the International Awards for the Quality of Extra Virgin Olive Oil EVOOLEUM Awards, is again Italian. The organization of the contest promoted by Mercacei and AEMO has presented the expected EVOOLEUM TOP100 in the framework of the VII edition of the World Olive Oil Exhibition (WOOE), which was held yesterday and today in Pavilion 2 of IFEMA in Madrid.

We are talking about the 100 EVOOs that have obtained the highest score among the 500 samples presented to a contest that was born with the vocation to recognize the quality of the best extra virgins in the world and that, among other merits, can boast of being the more rigorous and reliable private contest in the international scene thanks to its strict methodology and the spectacular jury that forms its Tasting Panel.

In addition to proclaiming EVOOLEUM 2018 Absolute Best with 96 points, Monini Monocultivar Coratina also wins the awards for the Best Monovarietal, Best Blend Green and Mature Fruity, Best of Italy and Best Coratina, as well as topping the TOP3 of the Best EVOOs of Organic Production. By the way, the firm also placed at the top one of the list its monovarietal, Monini Monocultivar Frantoio (Best Frantoio, third in the TOP3 Best EVOOs of Organic Production and fourth classified in the EVOOLEUM TOP10 with 95 points).

As happened in the last edition of the contest, eight Spanish EVOOs and two Italians monopolize the EVOOLEUM TOP10. After the absolute winner, and tied to points, appear Rincón de la Subbética, from Almazaras de la Subbética, S.L., and Oro Bailén Reserva Picual Family, of Aceites Oro Bailén Galgón 99, S.L.U. Below, is the aforementioned Monini Monocultivar Frantoio, Maeva & Toro (Torres Morente, S.A.), LivesOlives (Sánchez Fernández de Rute, S.L.), Conde de Mirasol (Aceites Mirasol, S.L.) and Venta del Barón (Muela-Olives, S.L.) , all of them with 95 points; completing the TOP10 Almaoliva Bio (Almazaras de la Subbética, S.L., which therefore also places two of its EVOOs among the top 10) and Bravoleum-Selección Especial de Aceites Hacienda El Palo Variedad Picual, of Aceites Hacienda El Palo, S.L., both with 94 points. We must highlight the preponderance of the Hojiblanca and Picual varieties, present in eight of the ten extra virgins that make up the TOP10.

All the awards have been unveiled this morning in a presentation held in the framework of the World Olive Oil Exhibition (WOOE), the World Meeting of Olive Oil, which is being held in the Pavilion 2 of IFEMA, in Madrid.

At the event, Juan A. Peñamil, CEO of Mercacei, and José María Penco, Director of the Spanish Association of Olive Municipalities (AEMO) -organizers of the contest-, presented the 100 EVOOs from six countries (Spain, Italy, Portugal, Croatia, Morocco and Israel) that will integrate the EVOOLEUM World's TOP100 Extra Virgin Olive Oils Guide 2019, and whose characteristics will be announced in the complete information sheets that will be included this new edition of the Guide, published in Spanish and English and also available in an app for iOS and Android. A unique publication of its kind that is distributed in the main international events and fairs of the olive and gastronomic sector, as well as in gourmet and delicatessen establishments, Michelin-star restaurants, bookstores and the Horeca channel.

It is worth noting again the overwhelming Spanish domain, with no less than 76 extra virgin olive oils in the EVOOLEUM TOP100 -surpassing the 73 of the last edition-. At a great distance appears Italy, with 14 EVOOs among the top 100 -11 in the previous edition-, Portugal -which goes from 12 to 5, Israel (with 3, a novelty this year), Croatia (1) and Morocco (1, also new this year), the Chilean and Tunisian representation disappearing in this edition.
