The Glass and Creation Competition of Verallia turns the design of EVOO upside down

2017/19/07 - The Glass and Creation Competition of Verallia, whose motto has been "From the Olive to the Glass", has revealed its winners. The fourth edition of this Spanish contest has awarded the most original ideas of design students of some of the main schools of the country, to whom the company proposed to create different containers for olive oil and table olives.
Designer Albert Puigdemont, CEO of the Puigdemont Roca studio, has led the jury in this edition along with 14 other professionals related to the world of glass for food and beverages, including Juan A. Peñamil and Pandora Peñamil Peñafiel, from Olivatessen and Mercacei. This jury has valued all of the 80 projects submitted to the competition by students from some of Spain's leading design schools: Escuela Universitaria de Diseño, Innovación y Tecnología (ESNE) from Madrid; Ingeniería en Diseño Industrial y Desarrollo de Producto de la Escuela de Ingenierías Industriales (EII) from the University of Valladolid; EINA Escuela de Ingeniería y Arquitectura from Zaragoza (UNIZAR) and Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny from Valencia (EASD-Valencia).

Specifically, Trama, by María Torres, of Ingeniería en Diseño Industrial y Desarrollo de Producto de la Escuela de Ingenierías Industriales (EII) from the University of Valladolid, has been the winning project awarded with the first prize, endowed with 2,500 euros. Her project, a container inspired by the flower of the olive tree at the time of its outbreak, with a fine and elegant appearance has been the chosen one. Its circular shape halps the consumer to hold the bottle without difficulty and it also includes a nozzle designed to be used as an cruet.

The second prize, worth 1,300 euros, was awarded to La O liva, by Gloria Díaz, Alicia Alonso and Laura Estévez, also from the Ingeniería en Diseño Industrial y Desarrollo de Producto de la Escuela de Ingenierías Industriales (EII) from the University of Valladolid. This project consisted on a pack composed of two containers: one for 150 ml. of table olives, and another for 750 ml. of olive oil. On the surface of both there are several voids, designed to facilitate the grip of the container.

Olives, by Mario Aguirre of the Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny from Valencia (EASD-Valencia) has received the third prize, worth 900 euros; being a container designed to contain and preserve table olives, whose advantage is that its contents can be eaten comfortably outdoors as it incorporates small forks to use anywhere, and is easily reusable.

According to Verallia, this competition is a springboard in the participants' career, since the company offers them the possibility to show their projects to their clients who can manufacture and market it, always with the help of the designer. In addition, the winner of this edition has the incentive to participate in the "I International Final" that will take place at the end of November 2017 in Paris and in which will participate the best designs of the different countries in which the company celebrates this contest. The winner will be able to choose a metallic prize or a formative scolarship in the company.

In addition, the initiative gives participants the opportunity to have their project developed by Verallia.
